What does NGAL do in the kidneys?
NGAL is produced in the distal nephron and its synthesis is up-regulated in response to kidney injury. NGAL is an ion-transporting agent. Markers of damage are potentially better than functional markers. NGAL is also a powerful marker of kidney disease progression.
